Hi, I'm not sure if this idea is old hat or anything, but have you ever thought of making it possible for users to delete their board posts or blog posts, as well as to delete or deactivate their accounts? I have no desire to do this but wondered about it.
yes, it has been suggested numerous times and the answer is always no.
In terms of board posts deleting creates too much inconsistency, and to be honest we have enough drama here already without users creating posts to cause more and then deleting them.
In terms of deleting accounts, as users have user numbers, deleting an account would create issues with the database. If you want to leave the site just clear your profile and reset your password to something you could never possibly remember. hth.
Hmmm, I will say that deleting blog posts hasn't been brought up before and since it's your blog, this should probably be possible.
Cool, thanks to both of you. I think the only time I'd use the board thing was to remove a faulty post, such as with a bad HTML tag, but I totally understand what you're saying. And as I said, I've no interest in terminating my account...was just curious.
About the blog, that would be really cool. Lol
That would explain user 15.
I guess they tried it out and there's the result.
Type "/view 15" in the quicknote box with out the quotes and take a look.
We know it's possible to do, they just don't like to do it.
Oh wow.
I agree that you should be able to delete blog posts. or, at the very least, have a setting that will only allow users who are logged in to view it, perhaps.
Now that's a novel idea!
I've always known why people can't delete board posts, or actually delete their account. But I'd never considered the blog post thing before. JJ, you've got a point, and I hope, if you haven't already, you might implement the ability to do that, if possible. Staff can delete posts in extreme circumstances, but it's got to be pretty damn extreme for that to happen. I know the only time I ever did it was when one user posted another's personal contact info without that person's permission. Not cool. But it takes something like that for staff to do it.
does anyone update blogs any more?
